Borrego Solar: Raising Industry Standards

CPV Today

May 24, 2010

Q: Tell us a little about the design standards group you have developed, Borrego Resources Group, and what and who it encompasses?

A: The Resources Group at Borrego Solar includes me and a team of our top engineering talents. We are all NABECP certified at the professional level and would be considered solar veterans in this young industry.

As Chief Technology Officer (CTO) my primary focus is leading the company's Resources Group in finding innovative ways to reduce Borrego's installed cost of PV installations through the evaluation, adoption and development of new technology; as well as ensuring the project specific designs being deployed have met with Borrego Solar’s high design standards.

My group works to continually improve all technical aspects of our business, from the initial design to the installation of the final system component.

Our group engages in the evaluation of existing and new market technology and the development of some of our own technologies in order to provide Borrego Solar with the best technical solutions for our customers.

In addition, my team and I support our project engineering team as an internal technical resource and work to improve our engineering process and standards, ensuring that the projects group remains streamlined, efficient and on the forefront of PV engineering.

The Resources Group sets Borrego Solar apart from our competitors by allowing us to improve workflow efficiency, design the best performing PV systems commercially available, and ultimately offer our customers reliable products at better prices.

We have engineers physically located throughout our organization to support projects nationwide with roughly equal distribution on both coasts.

We review preliminary and final designs, create construction standard documents, participate in site walks, create standards in process development, and perform a final design analysis.

My team’s contributions help improve efficiency, minimize waste, and ultimately allows us to offer better products at better prices.
