LIVERMORE -- The Livermore-Amador Valley Zone 7 Water Agency debuted one of the largest public solar panel systems in the Tri-Valley on Wednesday, which will save the agency an estimated $40,600 on its energy costs per year.
The 348-kilowatt, 1,484-panel system was installed at the Del Valle Water Treatment plant and will produce 648,600 kilowatt hours of energy per year. The power produced will allow the agency that supplies water to Livermore, Dublin and Pleasanton to reduce the amount of power used at the treatment plant by a third.
Zone 7 entered a 20-year power purchase agreement with Borrego Solar, a private company, in which Borrego designed, built, owns and maintains the system on agency land.
Santa Rita Jail's 1.2-megawatt system is the Tri-Valley's largest public solar panel system. Pleasanton also has a 360-kilowatt system on its operation service center and the Alameda County Fairgrounds has a 1,250-megawatt system on its horse barn.
