Borrego Solar is one of the most experienced players in a relatively young and fast growing industry. We provide a full suite of solar and energy storage services for the commercial and wholesale distributed generation markets: development, design, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) and operations and maintenance (O&M).
We’ve been designing and constructing systems since 1980, and have built up a portfolio of more than 1,100 projects totaling more than 400MW of solar capacity. We know what it takes to engineer, build and finance a system to meet our customers’ goals while navigating complex policy and market dynamics that seem to change from year to year.
Borrego Solar consistently ranks among the top five largest providers of non-residential distributed generation solar energy systems in the U.S. We specialize in working with educational facilities (K-12 and higher education), local and state governments, small and large corporations, water agencies and districts, commercial real estate developers and owners, independent power producers (IPPs) and investor-owned utilities (IOUs).
We bring the most sophisticated engineering capabilities to the table and build ground mounts, roof mounts, carports, elevated shade structures, and tracking systems for customers across the U.S.
The Borrego Solar project finance team is devoted to finding the ideal solar financing solution for you. By purchasing clean renewable energy instead of the solar asset itself, many government (tax exempt) and larger for-profit entities can reduce operating costs with no money down, and be cash flow positive on day one.
We strive to make financing simple. There are no third-party negotiations, no miscommunications, and no duplications of professional (legal and accounting) services.
The nation’s leading investors in large-scale solar energy projects either hire us to build their solar projects or purchase PV systems we’ve developed because of our reputation and track record of constructing high-quality, low-risk solutions that perform as promised.
We’ve chosen to be technology and vendor agnostic so we are free to select the most appropriate technical solution for each project as defined by our customers’ goals. Our engineering and procurement teams are focused on vetting technologies and partnering with component providers that are best suited for our suite of customers.
Our philosophy is to focus on technologies and providers with track records of performance and reliability. While many other providers focus on up-front cost per watt, we aim to minimize the lifetime cost per unit of solar energy for our customers.
Our approach is comprehensive and incorporates all local subsidies and ongoing maintenance and operating expenses. Our end goal is aligned with that of our customers, and we seek out products and providers that maximize financial return with minimal long term risk. What’s right for one project may not be right for another. That’s why our project developers and engineers specify the best-in-class components for our customers and partner with only the most stable, experienced, and highest quality manufacturers.
Borrego Solar holds Electrical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, General Contracting, Electrical Contracting and Solar Contracting licenses. We are one of the few companies in the industry that is both a licensed professional engineering firm and a contractor.
In addition, a large percentage of our team holds certifications from the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP), the premier technical certification for solar photovoltaic engineers and installers. These certifications, and the experience that comes with them, allow us to deliver a full suite of high-quality, low-risk solar energy services to our customers.
